The fortress town was founded 1 355 years ago in the piedmont of picturesque Ukrainian Carpathians be tween the Bystrytsias rivers on the territory of Zabolottia village. Later on the town became an important trade, industrial and cultural center of Galicia. In 1662 the city adopted Magdeburg Law or Rights, granting it significant privileges, and was named Stanislaw6w. In 1962 the city was renamed into Ivano-Frankivsk to honor Ivan Franko, the famous Ukrainian writer, poet, public leader and politician (z tekstu).

It's here, at the foothills of the picturesque Ukrainian Carpathians, on the land of plenty, where the Dnister, Prut, Cheremosh rivers start from their pure sources, where Hoverla (2061 m above the sea level), the highest mountain of Ukraine, stands in splendour, the Precarpathia, the wonderful country of ethnical Ukrainians: Hutsuls, Boykos, Lemkos, Pokuttyans and Opelians, the land of peculiar history, culture and interesting people, spreads out. Ivano-Frankivsk region is rich in minerals and recreational resources. This is the only place in Europe, where age-old beech woods remain and tender edelweiss flowers bloom, there are lots of wild berries and mushrooms in the region and the only active volcano in Ukraine is situated in Starunia vilage, Bohorodchany district etc. Cristal clear air attracts everyone, who comes here, and traditional ceremonies are practices here since pre-Christian times (z tekstu).
